MXDLYHHHT Right-angle 20–60x monocular review

A right-angle 20-60x spotting monocular sold with an AZ mount, a carry bag and a phone adapter, publishing a 60 mm objective, BaK4 prism, field, eye relief and exit pupil figures that do not agree with each other.

More figures than most

The description publishes the objective (60 mm), the zoom (20-60x), the field (114 to 57 ft at 1000 yd), the eye relief (13 to 16 mm), the close focus (8 m), the prism (BaK4), the coating (broadband green multi-layer) and an eyepiece diameter of 15 mm. An AZ mount, a carry bag and a phone adapter are included.

Two figures that disagree

The exit pupil is given as 4.1 to 1.4 mm. A 60 mm objective at 20x gives 3.0 mm, and at 60x 1.0 mm. Either the objective is bigger than 60 mm or the exit pupils are wrong. The rest of the listing does not settle it.

A name that contradicts the build

The title calls it catadioptric, a mirror-and-lens design. The description describes a BaK4 prism and a zoom, which is a conventional spotting scope.

Use

Find a target at 20x, then zoom in, as the listing suggests. On the mount, 20x to 40x is the range that stays bright. For a spotting scope with fewer contradictions, see the spotting scopes shelf.

What observers ask about this one

Which figure is right?

A 60 mm objective at 20x gives a 3 mm exit pupil; 4.1 mm would need about 82 mm. Either the objective is larger than stated or the exit pupils are wrong. Ask the seller before buying.

Is it a catadioptric telescope?

The title says catadioptric, but the listing describes a BaK4 prism and an ordinary zoom spotting-scope layout. Treat it as a spotting scope.

Can it show the Moon?

Yes, the listing names lunar craters. Use the low end of the zoom on the mount; at 60x the image dims.
