Aperture without a tripod

Anything firm at roughly seated eye height — a garden table, a wall, a purpose-made stool. That requirement is the trade for the compactness, and it is worth solving before the first clear night rather than during it.
Is the app essential?
It is the reason to choose this model. The telescope works without it, but there is no optical finder described in the listing, so finding by hand would mean adding one.
