Celticbird CB081A 8-piece kit review

Celticbird's eight-piece kit: 6, 12.5 and 20 mm Plössls, a 2x Barlow with a T2 thread, a Moon filter and red, blue and yellow filters, in a lockable aluminum case.

Eight pieces

Three Plössls of 6, 12.5 and 20 mm, a 2x Barlow, a Moon filter and red, blue and yellow color filters, all in a lockable aluminum case.

A T2 Barlow

The Barlow carries T2 threads (M42 × 0.75). Celticbird describes three uses: a visual 2x, a prime-focus T-adapter for a DSLR, and a tele-extender that adds focal length for photography. A T-ring for your camera is needed.

The filters

The Moon filter dims the glare of a bright Moon. The color filters are named only by color; Wratten numbers would make them comparable with other makers’.

What the eyepieces leave out

Element count, apparent field and coatings are not published. Astromania’s set of the same three focal lengths publishes all three and costs about $30 less, without the Barlow, filters or case.

What observers ask about this one

What does the T2 Barlow do for photography?

With a T-ring for your camera, it can work three ways, Celticbird says: as a T-adapter at prime focus, as a Barlow that adds focal length, or simply as a visual 2x.

How do the color filters help?

Red and yellow sharpen Mars's surface markings; blue brings out Jupiter's belts and Saturn's cloud bands. Without Wratten numbers the exact shades cannot be compared.

Is it different from the Astromania 6/12.5/20 set?

Same focal lengths. The [Astromania set](/reviews/eyepiece-sets-astromania/) publishes its 50° field and four-element design but has no Barlow, filters or case.
