Celestron 94303 Eyepiece, Barlow & Filter Kit review

Celestron's Eyepiece, Barlow and Filter Kit: five four-element, fully multi-coated Plössls of 32, 17, 13, 8 and 6 mm with a 52-degree field, a 2x Barlow, a Moon filter and planetary filters in a foam-lined metal case.

Five matched Plössls

32, 17, 13, 8 and 6 mm, each a four-element, fully multi-coated Plössl with a 52-degree apparent field. Celestron publishes the field, which many kits leave out.

Ten powers

With the 2x Barlow, Celestron counts ten combinations. On a 650 mm reflector the eyepieces alone give 20x, 38x, 50x, 81x and 108x; the Barlow doubles each. On an 8-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain they run from 64x to 339x before the Barlow.

The 32 mm

The longest eyepiece is the most useful for finding and framing. 32 mm is about the limit for a wide field in a 1.25-inch barrel.

Filters

A Moon filter and planetary filters; the listing mentions blue for Jupiter and red or orange for Mars’s polar caps, without Wratten numbers.

The case

Metal, foam-lined, with room to grow.

What observers ask about this one

What do ten powers look like?

On an 8-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain at 2032 mm: 64x, 120x, 156x, 254x and 339x, and twice each with the Barlow. On a 650 mm reflector: 20x, 38x, 50x, 81x and 108x, and 41x to 217x with the Barlow.

Why does the 32 mm matter?

It is the longest focal length that still gives a wide field in a 1.25-inch barrel. It shows the most sky, which makes finding objects easier and frames large clusters.

Is the case worth it?

It is metal and foam-lined, and Celestron notes it has room to add more eyepieces later.
