Only if the saddle is cut for the same profile. There are two widths in general use, neither is a published standard, and a dual saddle that accepts both is the reason many owners never notice the distinction until they change mounts.
Half the returns on this shelf are a bar bought for the wrong saddle, and the two look alike in photographs.
The two profiles
A narrow trapezoidal bar, which is what almost every small and medium telescope carries, and a wider one that resists flexing far better under a long tube. They are named after the manufacturers who popularised them.
What a dual saddle changes
It accepts both, usually through a clamp with a stepped jaw. If your mount has one, the choice becomes about rigidity rather than about compatibility.
Beyond the profile
Length, hole spacing and thickness. A longer bar allows the tube to be slid further for balance, which matters when a camera moves the centre of gravity back. Holes have to line up with the threaded points on the tube or its rings, and a bar with a slot is far more adaptable than one with two fixed holes.
The safety detail worth insisting on
Stops at the ends. A bar without them can slide straight out of a saddle the moment the clamp is loosened, which is the most predictable accident in the hobby.
The questions that keep arriving
How do I tell which saddle I have?
By measuring the width of the slot rather than by looking at photographs. The narrow and the wide profiles are obviously different once measured and easy to confuse in a listing image.
Why do bars from different makers sometimes not fit?
Because there is no published standard. The angle and the width are conventional, small differences between manufacturers are common, and a clamp that closes on one bar can bottom out on another of the same nominal profile.
