The mount is the argument

An EQ-3 under a 114 mm tube is more mount than the class normally provides. That shows up as shorter damping times and steadier high-power views, and it is the specification worth paying for on a telescope of this size.

The focuser matters too

One and a quarter inches, rack and pinion. That is the modern fitting, and the rack-and-pinion mechanism gives positive, repeatable movement — which is what makes fine focus possible at 150x and above.

What the claims are worth

Over two million stars is a statement about the sky. Two hundred and thirty times is an eyepiece calculation. Neither describes this telescope, and the two figures that do — 114 mm and 1000 mm — are at the top of this page.

A drive motor, and filters, described as optional. On an equatorial mount a single-axis motor is the highest-value addition there is, and saying so in the listing is more useful than another magnification claim.

What does adding a motor change?

It drives the right ascension axis at sidereal rate, so an aligned mount follows the sky without a hand on the cable. At high magnification that is the difference between studying an object and repeatedly recentring it.

Is 230x realistic?

The conventional optical ceiling for a 114 mm is around twice the aperture in millimetres, and the atmosphere is usually lower. The figure is reachable with the supplied eyepieces and will not show more detail.
