A straight-through 6x30 optical finder with a crosshair and a wide field, described by the maker as gathering eighteen times more light than the unaided eye.

The bottom line A modest, honest finder whose headline claim is one of the few on this site that survives being checked.

Small optics, real ones

Thirty millimetres of objective at six times. That produces a 5 mm exit pupil — the same figure a 10x50 binocular gives — which is why a 6x30 shows stars that a 5x24 does not.

The claim, checked

Eighteen times more light than the eye. Light grasp scales with the square of the aperture; a 30 mm objective against a dark-adapted pupil of about 7 mm gives roughly eighteen. The arithmetic holds, which is worth saying on a shelf where most headline figures do not.

The crosshair

It turns a finder from something that points roughly at a target into something that centres it. On a telescope with a narrow field, that difference is what makes the finder useful at all.

What is not stated

Field of view, and how it attaches. The second matters: finder shoes are not standardised between makers, and a finder without a matching bracket is an ornament.

Is the 18x claim correct?

It is consistent arithmetic. Light grasp goes with the square of the diameter, and a 30 mm objective against a roughly 7 mm dark-adapted pupil gives a ratio of about eighteen. It describes any 30 mm optic, not this one in particular.

Straight or angled?

Straight is quicker to aim and awkward near the zenith. An angled finder costs more and solves the neck problem — the choice depends on how high the telescope usually points.
