ASToptics

Heater strips and threaded adapters

The heater

A strip wraps around a tube and holds the optics above the dew point. What decides whether it works is its length against the tube’s circumference and its power draw against the supply — both published here.

Why length is the specification

A strip too short leaves a cold arc, and dew forms there first. On this shelf the page prints the length and the tube sizes it suits, because “fits most telescopes” cannot be checked against anything.

The adapter

An M54 male to T2 female coupling. Its whole specification is two thread designations and the optical path it adds.

Reading an ASToptics page here

Measure the tube before reading the price. Dew control is the one accessory shelf where the wrong size does nothing at all.

    • A heater works where a shield fails: on a night when dew forms regardless
    • Several lengths exist, so the strip can match the tube circumference
    • No power draw figure, which is what decides battery life

Best for: Imaging sessions where a shield alone does not keep the corrector clear
