Bresser

From a child’s first tube to a GoTo equatorial

Two ranges under one name

The JUNIOR products and the Messier products share a badge and almost nothing else. One is a 70/400 refractor in a backpack; the other is a 90 mm apochromat-class tube on an EXOS II GoTo mount. Reading the range as a single thing is the most common mistake made with it.

Accessories built around its own hardware

A good part of the Bresser accessory catalogue exists because of Bresser mounts and Bresser focusers: a counterweight cut for the EXOS-1 and EXOS-2, an extension sleeve for the HEXAFOC, a polar scope illuminator in a stated thread, a dew shield for the MCX102. These are precise products, and their listings give the figure that matters.

What the listings do well, and less well

Threads, bore diameters and optical paths are usually published. Optical claims are looser: one telescope in the range is titled with one focal length and bulleted with another, which the page for it reports rather than resolving.

The model number does more work than the brand. Look at which line the product belongs to before comparing it with anything.
