A star tracker turns at sidereal rate; a ball head aims a camera. This adapter joins them, with a threaded post that a standard photographic head screws onto.

The figures that disagree

One bullet gives 0.95 cm and calls it 3/8 inch — which is correct, since 3/8 of an inch is about 9.5 mm. Another gives 1.9 cm and also calls it 3/8 inch — which is 3/4 of an inch. Both are printed above, and this page does not choose between them.

Why 3/8 rather than 1/4

Because a ball head carrying a camera and a telephoto lens needs the larger thread. ISO 1222 defines both; the smaller one is for phone clamps and light accessories, and the larger for anything that has to stay put under load.

The blanks in the listing

Material, weight, and the actual length of the post. For a part whose whole function is a thread, the last of those is the one that matters.

German, French, Italian and Spanish Amazon stores ran from 29 € to 34 € on the day of the survey.
