The tripod socket

A quarter-inch thread, named. That is the smaller of the two photographic tripod threads, and it means the adapter can be supported on its own head rather than cantilevered off an eyepiece. At high magnification that changes the result more than any other specification here.

Two ranges, one of them tight

Eyepieces from 26 to 54 mm — broad, and the second widest on this shelf. Phones from 70 to 85 mm — the narrowest here by some way. Many current handsets are outside that at one end or the other.

The material

Hard-wearing plastic throughout. That keeps the weight down and gives up the stiffness the metal adapters here provide. With the tripod socket in use, stiffness matters less, because the assembly is not hanging from the eyepiece.
