ECSiNG

Double-male thread couplings

What these actually are

Both products are rings with a male thread on each face. They exist to join two female threads that would otherwise not meet. Neither reduces a focal length, and neither holds a filter.

Why the shelf says otherwise

They were catalogued among reducers and wheels. The pages here open by saying what the part is, because a buyer who reads the shelf name and stops will order the wrong thing.

What decides whether it fits

The two thread designations, and the optical path the ring adds. The second figure is the one most often missing, and its absence is reported.

Reading an ECSiNG page here

Read the first line. It is there precisely because the category is misleading.

  • ECSiNG M48 to M42 double-male adapter ring

ECSiNG M48 male to M42 male adapter

A male-to-male ring joining M48 × 0.75 to M42 × 0.75 with the shortest possible mechanical length, blackened inside against reflections.

    Slot count and filter size
    M48 × 0.75 and M42 × 0.75, both male
    Optical path length
Described as the minimum mechanically possible; no figure is given
    Manual or motorised operation
A thread adapter — no optics, and not a filter wheel
    Light sealing

    • The matt internal finish addresses internal reflections, which few adapter listings mention
    • Both threads are named with their pitch
    • A double-male ring only helps where both sides are female — which is not every junction
