Where dew hits hardest

A Schmidt-Cassegrain’s corrector plate sits flat at the front of the tube, in full view of the open sky. It radiates heat away faster than the air can warm it, falls below the dew point, and fogs — typically within an hour on a clear autumn night. That is the situation this shield exists for.

What it is made of

Flexible plastic with a black textile velvet finish on the inside. The finish absorbs the moisture that condenses within the shield and kills reflected light from lamps and the sky.

The fitting

Hook-and-loop, over a range of 225 to 245 mm of tube outside diameter. The whole shield rolls flat when it is not in use, which is the reason to choose a flexible one over a rigid tube.
