Short, simple and supplied with its screw

A hundred and twenty millimetres, a flat top, a long slot, and a 1/4 in hex-head screw in the box. For a small tube or a guide scope that is everything needed, and the screw being included removes the usual trip to a hardware shop.

The slot

Balance is a position along the bar. A slot lets the tube sit anywhere within its length; fixed holes offer two or three fixed positions and no more. For anything whose balance changes — a camera added, an eyepiece swapped — the slot is what makes the bar usable.

The number that never appears

The profile. Vixen and Losmandy are the two widths in use, roughly 44 mm and 75 mm, and a bar of one profile will not seat in a saddle cut for the other. Measuring the saddle slot is the check.

Its length as a limit

A hundred and twenty millimetres is short. On a long tube, a short bar gives the saddle little to grip and allows the tube to rock — which shows up as vibration that takes longer to settle.

German, French, Italian and Spanish Amazon stores ran from 29 € to 33 € on the day of the survey.
