Five holes, all specified

Two M8 threads, one 1/4 inch thread, and two 7 mm through holes. Publishing each by thread and diameter is what makes a mounting base usable on paper: a buyer can check it against the holes already in their tube.

Metric and imperial together

M8 for astronomical brackets, 1/4 in for photographic ones. Having both means a finder shoe and a camera clamp can be attached without an adapter, which is the point of a base like this.

Aluminium

Ninety millimetres of black anodised alloy, mounted high on a tube. Mass up there affects balance more than mass near the mount, so a light base is the right choice.

What it is not
