Light enough to be carried

One point one kilograms, published — a little above the lightest stool on this page, and well under most of them. On a night when a telescope, a case, a chart and a flask are already being carried, the stool is the item most likely to be left behind, and a quarter of a kilogram decides that more often than it should.

The materials, named

High-strength nylon and PA66. That is a specification rather than a description, and PA66 is the grade chosen where a plastic has to take load without creeping. A maker that names it has thought about the part.

The range

Six point three to forty-five centimetres. That is effectively the same span as its rivals, and it covers the eyepiece height of a Dobsonian from the zenith down to well below the horizon.

The mechanism
