Why three axes

A phone camera has to sit centred on the eyepiece, at the right distance, and square to it. A clamp that adjusts in one plane leaves the other two to luck, and the result is vignetting and a picture that drifts off centre. Three tensioned knobs address each one deliberately.

The range, published at both ends

Thirty-five to sixty millimetres of eyepiece body. That is the widest top end on this shelf, which suits the fat barrels of wide-field eyepieces — and its lower limit is higher than the cheap clamps here, which start around twenty-five.

Build

A metal frame with a polymer housing. A phone and an adapter hanging off an eyepiece is a cantilever, and how stiff that assembly is decides whether the framing survives a focus adjustment.
