The two figures most listings omit

Six hundred and thirty-five to six hundred and fifty-five nanometres, and an output below five milliwatts. Both are published. Whatever else is true of this collimator, a maker that prints its laser specifications is telling you something about the rest of its claims.

The tool that can be checked

Three adjustment ports at 120 degrees, behind a sealed rear cap. That arrangement exists for one reason: a laser collimator can be out of true, and a tool that cannot be corrected has to be trusted blindly. Rotating it in the focuser and watching the dot is the test; these three screws are the cure.

Seven brightness steps

Daylight collimation needs a bright beam to see the return. Night collimation needs a dim one, because a bright spot destroys the dark adaptation the whole evening depends on. A single fixed brightness fails at one end or the other.

The battery

A CR2032, and the maker states it is not included. That is worth a note on the shopping list: a collimator with a flat cell is a paperweight, and the cells are small enough to keep a spare in the case.

German Amazon store sat at about 64 € on the day of the survey.

American and British Amazon stores list it in local currency, which the euro range above sets aside.

French and Spanish Amazon catalogues hold a record for it that nobody is selling.

Italian Amazon store gave no result whatever, so the buy button there opens a search rather than an empty page.
