What to do on arrival

Put it in the focuser, tighten gently, and rotate it while watching where the dot lands. A dot that stays put means the beam is square to the barrel. A dot that circles means the tool is out of true — and this listing does not say whether that can be corrected.

Why the check is not optional

A laser collimator is believed. It produces a bright, unambiguous spot, and an observer follows it. If the beam is not on the barrel axis, the telescope ends up confidently misaligned, and the star images get worse while the tool says everything is fine.

What it does well

A metal housing at this price, and one clearly stated job. For a beginner with a Newtonian who has never collimated anything, it is a reasonable first tool — with the rotation test done before it is trusted.

Availability

German, Italian and Spanish Amazon stores ran from 29 € to 36 € on the day of the survey.

British Amazon store lists it in local currency, which the euro range above sets aside.
