Ready-made rather than self-built

The film is already mounted in a moulded frame. That removes the step most likely to go wrong with solar film sold by the sheet, which is mounting it flat and holding it there — and it is the main argument for this product over a roll of film.

The fit is by model, not by measurement

Omegon names its own Basic telescopes and adds “or comparable models”. No outside diameter is published. A frame made for one tube may or may not grip another of nominally the same aperture, because outside diameter varies with wall thickness and construction.

The film density

ND5, stated plainly. A neutral density of 5 corresponds to one part in a hundred thousand transmitted, and it is a published property of the film rather than a claim about this assembly.

What this page does not do

It does not tell you that using it is safe. It reports what Omegon publishes and points at the instructions supplied with the filter, which cover inspecting it before every use, fitting it securely and storing it so that it is not damaged between sessions.

Availability

German, French, Italian and Spanish Amazon stores ran from 29 € to 32 € on the day of the survey.

British Amazon store lists it in local currency, which the euro range above sets aside.

American Amazon store gave no result whatever, so the buy button there opens a search rather than an empty page.
